Thomas W. Wood
Is Called Home on Sunday

Death came to Thomas William Wood, 83, at 11 o'clock yesterday morning in his home, 319 West North street, following an illness of several weeks. A native of Morgan county, Missouri, Mr. Wood had been a resident of this district since December, 1896. He was engaged in ranching and stock raising until his retirement several years ago.

A veteran of the Civil war, Mr. Wood served in the Confederate army. On March 27, 1868, he married Miss Rhodabelle Fisher, who died in 1879*. Seven children were born in this union, and three survive, they being Mrs. N. C. Wilson, Mrs. G. H. Huff and J. C. Wood, all of Visalia.

On November 16, 1881, he married Miss Roxie Anne Mullins, who survives him. Four children were born to this union, of which three survive, Claude L. Wood, Miss Maude M. Wood, and Romie Wood. A granddaughter, Miss Hester V. Wood, and several other grandchildren, and a number of great-grandchildren, also survive, as does one sister, Mrs. Betty Fisher of Portland, Oregon.

Funeral services will be conducted from the A. E. Brooks parlors at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon, with Rev. J. A. Johnson, pastor of the Pentecostal church officiating. Interment will be in the Visalia cemetery.

* 1879 is an error of memory as Rhoda is listed in the 1880 census. She likely died shortly after her last child's birth, Dec 1880.

=======================================

Tom Wood's first wife (and mother of Belle, Kate, James, & Cena Ellen) died in Dec 1880 -- probably in Batie (Beaty) Twp, Benton Co, Arkansas, as this is where they are listed in the 1880 census.

Tom's second wife is Roxie Ann Mullins, mother of Claud, Maude, Bessie, and Romie Wood.

Tom's parents are James Murry Wood and Katherine/Catherine Adair.
