---George Washington Elliott was born in Kentucky on April 20, 1833. At an early age he moved with his family to the state of Indiana, then moved to Macon County, Missouri. He served as Captain in the Confederate Army, Co. B 5th Missouri Infantry. He was taken prisoner at the Fall of Vicksburg. After his release, he returned to Macon County.
---After the death of his wife on February 12, 1868, he married Sarah Herrin. To this union four children were born: Cora Elliott Tate, James Horace Elliott, George Vest Elliott and Henrietta Elliott Herrin.

Records say his was severely wounded at Franklin, Tennessee on November 30, 1864......15 months after the fall of Vicksburg, MS
