Son of John Jacob Rumph and Ida Henrietta Thrower; World War II Veteran (North Africa)who went to live in Washington, D.C. area after the war. His family (Rumphs) mostly lived near Charleston, SC, and were descendants of a Rumph who came from Canton Berne, Switzerland, in 1735, to Charleston, SC, along with several siblings. Wilton spent his adult life after the war mostly in Northern Virginia where he was an auto mechanic. He was married to Lillie Virginia Heflin until his death in 1970 - he was run over by a wrecker while crossing the road in Triangle, Va. He left 4 children: Mary Louise Rumph Gallucci, John Stanley Rumph, (Nellie) Elaine Rumph Armstrong, and (Carroll) Bradley Rumph. Grandchildren: Jacob Stanley Rumph (son of Stan), Estelle Armstrong Cake (daughter of Elaine)and E. Bryan Rumph (son of Mary Louise).

Great-grandchildren: Meredith Lilian Rumph and Nicholas (Nick) Alexander Rumph, children of Jake and Marie Rumph; Jordan and Tate Cake, children of Estelle and Jeff Cake.

Siblings: Twin Rumph Babies b. and died 1886; Augustus Eden Rumph; Osborne Romeo Rumph; A. (Albert) Sidney Rumph; Lessie Claire Rumph Skinner; Harry Legare Rumph Sr; Earnesteen Rumph (died at a young age); John W. Rumph (died at a young age). Wilton was the youngest b. 1908.
