Levetra Irene Adams Upshaw, age 94, went home to be with the Lord on June 24, 2007, at her home in Caldwell surrounded by her loving family. Viewing will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. at Dakan Funeral Chapel on Monday, July 2. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 3, at Dakan Chapel with Pastor Earl Lowen, Senior Pastor of Southern Baptist Church and Plais Johnson, Pastor of the former Wilder Missionary Baptist Church conducting. Internment will follow at Canyon Hill Cemetery, Caldwell.

Levetra was born Dec. 1, 1912, at West Plains, Mo., in Howell County to Orville and Lola Pool Adams. She was raised in the Summers community east of West Plains. She went through the 8th grade at Summers School and went to high school at West Plains. Levetra married Lee William Upshaw on Jan. 14, 1930, at Mountain Home, Ark. Following their marriage they continued to live and farm in the area where they were raised. In August 1936, they came to Caldwell to live for almost a year and a half. In January 1938, the family moved back to West Plains because of Levetra's poor health. In 1944 the family returned to Caldwell where she worked for J. R. Simplot Company. She also worked at various other jobs in the area. In 1951 they moved to Nyssa, Ore. where in 1954 she went to work for Malheur Memorial Hospital doing private nursing. They purchased property in Apple Valley in 1955 and lived there until 1966 when they moved to Notus. She then went to work for the Caldwell Memorial Hospital in the Home Health department as a nurses aid for several years. Levetra loved her family dearly; she was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. She also enjoyed church work and was a member of the Parma Missionary Baptist Church and the Wilder Missionary Baptist Church for many years. Caring for the sick and helping anyone who needed assistance was another of Levetra's passions. Her hobbies were quilting, canning and gardening.

Survivors include her daughter, Betty French and husband, Richard of Notus; son, James William Upshaw and wife, Shirley of Ogden, Utah; son, Royse Upshaw and wife, Beverly of Winnemucca, Nev.; sister, Mary Catherine Wedig of Harrisburg, Penn.; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 27 great great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Two other people who were important in her life were Jack Mangum of Burley and Brian Hale of Seattle, Wash.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Lee Upshaw; her parents; two brothers; a sister; two grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
