Jessie Wallace, 66, retired farmer of the Jayess Community passed away at the Walthall Hospital Sunday morning August 25.
Mr. Wallace had been in ill health for some years but was about his usual duties at his home here when he suffered a stroke late Saturday afternoon. He was carried to Tylertown to the hospital where he died the next day.
Mr. Wallace was the son of the late John and Laura Wallace, pioneer settlers of this area. He had lived all of his life in Lawrence County.
He was a devout member of Powells Grove Pentecostal Church and was active in church affairs.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday August 27, at 2 p.m.
Officiating were the pastor, Rev. C. W. Harris and special music was given by Sherrod Rayborn and his group of singers from Monticello. Sherrod is an old friend of the family and formerly lived here.
Surviving are his wife, the former Mary Womack and two children, Miss Janelle Wallace and Plez Wallace both of Jayess; 5 grandchildren and 2 great-grand children; one brother, Pressie Wallace of Jayess and a host of other relatives and friends. Interment was in the Church Cemetery.
