SAMUEL MCKIBBEN DIED ON SUNDAY
He Was a Much Respected Citizen - His Funeral Was Held on Tuesday
Towlesville - March 7.-- This village and community mourn the loss of a most honored and upright citizen, Samuel McKibben, who passed away peacefully, Sunday morning, March 5, at the age of 82 years. Mr. McKibben was born in the north of Ireland in 1829 and came to the United States in 1849. Most of his life has been spent on his farm about three miles southwest of this place. he came here in 1853.(where he resided until January 9, 1910) He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Jane, daughter of the late Andrew Stewart and they have lived together fifty-two years. The fine residence which Mr. McKibben erected on his farm was destroyed by fire last winter, after which he purchased a house in this village, where he died. He was very prosperous as a farmer and was held in high esteem. He was a well-informed man and his counsel was much sought by younger men. In politics he was a strong supporter of the Republican party. He never held public office, except school trustee. He was a kind neighbor, a good citizen and a MAN. He is survived by his wife and six children, all of whom were with him during his last illness, and all but one of whom were present when he died, namely: Ex-Supervisor, Andrew J. McKibben, Lydia wife of George R. Stewart, Robert J. McKibben and Matie McKibben, all of this place: Rev. Edward McKibben, of Fairfield, Ohio; and Fannie, wife of Rev. Charles G. Mitchell, of Middleport, NY. The funeral was held at the M. E. Church Tuesday afternoon, Mr. McKibben's pastor, Rev. J. B. Crist, of the Presbyterian Church, officiating. The interment was in Fairview Cemetery.
