Amelia "Emma" Taylor Prairie was a daughter of Nelson and Celina Taylor. She was born in Momence June 26, 1864, and passed away January 28, 1935, at the age of 70 years, 7 months and 2 days. Her entire life was spent in this community where she grew to womanhood and received her education.
She was united in marriage to Clovis Prairie, August 30, 1870, at Momence, and a quite unusual event was enjoyed by both Mrs. Prairie and her husband when in August, 1930, they celebrated their golden wedding anniversary.
From this union there was born a family of twelve children, nine of whom, together with the husband survive her as follows: Fred, George, Bertha Wyant, Jessie, Lavina Long, William, Henry, Levi and Cecil. "I Stood at her death beside as a faithful husband, praying for God to relieve her to her troubled agony. God answered at once. Her pains ceased, some easy breaths came; still praying and still more relieved, all at once I saw a big hill, her breath still weakened; this hill opened and it was heaven. The gates opened and many angels appeared. On the incline I saw one lovely angel going up and joining. I turned around and bowed and her last breath of agony was gone. Our prayers had been answered."
