S. J. CARTER DIES
Samuel J. Carter, son of Jas. And Mary T Carter, was born July 10, 1873, near Sidney, Champaign county, Illinois, and passed away at the St. Francis hospital in Grand Island Saturday, October 1, 1932, at the age of 59 years, 2 months and 21 days.
When he was fifteen years of age his parents removed to Hamilton county, Nebraska, and settled on what is known to many of the older residents as the Whittacker farm two and one-half miles southeast of Giltner and incidently on the same section on which he lived at the time of his death. Since coming to Nebraska he has always lived in this vicinity, having moved several times, and finally in 1917 settled on the farm where he resided ever since.
He was united in marriage to Hattie L. Young June 22, 1898. To this union was born one daughter, Doris Marie, who is now the wife of Lloyd J. Wright.
Mr. Carter has always followed the occupation of farming and was subject to all the vicissitudes and complications that go with such a career. He was a hard working man and always enjoyed good health until about three years ago when he began to wane and during the past two years he had suffered several attacks which finally resulted in cancer of the stomach.
He was taken to the St. Francis hospital in Grand Island Thursday afternoon and submitted to an operation Saturday morning which revealed the hopelessness of his condition. He passed away at a few minutes after nine o'clock the same evening.
Besides his wife, Hattie L., and Doris, he leaves to mourn his departure one brother, Edward M. Carter of Grand Island, Nebraska, (the only surviving member of a family of five sisters and four brothers), also a large number of nephews and nieces, and a host of friends.
A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is still.
