Castilian Nobility. Better known by the nickname Princess of Melgar, she was the daughter of the Count de Mendoza. In 1447, having married (1444) John II of Navarre, she became queen and later sovereign consort (1458) of Aragon, Majorca, Valencia and Sicily. Until her death Joan Enriquez played a very active part in politics and in the consequent dynastic upheavals of those regions that resulted in a long civil war ended in 1472. She died during the course of these conflicts due to breast cancer.
