Albert John Wohlgemuth Jr., 89, Atchison, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011 at Atchison Senior Village.
Masonic Services will be at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 22, 2011 at Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home, Atchison, with visitation to follow until 9 p.m. Private family burial will follow on Wednesday at Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison. Memorial contributions in honor of Mr. Wohlgemuth are suggested to St. Mark's Lutheran Church or Shriner's Children's Hospital and may be sent in care of the funeral home. Al was born Sept. 8, 1922 in Cummings, the son of the late Albert J. and Mari Willa (Mayfield) Wohlgemuth. He attended Atchison High School and began working for Midwest Solvents where he became production supervisor, retiring after 44 years. Al was a member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, a 50 year active member with the Masonic Lodge 158, where he served three terms as Master of the Lodge, an active member of Abdallah Shrine, Atchison Lions Club and he managed the Atchison Lions Pool for 13 years. He enjoyed camping with his camping clubs, farming and fishing. Al was a people person who always cherished time spent with his family.
Al married Roberta M. Godfrey on Dec. 25, 1944 in Atchison. Roberta preceded Al in death on Feb. 1, 2005. Survivors include sons, Gary (Peggy) Wohlgemuth. John (Jennifer) Wohlgemuth. both of Atchison, Jeffrey Wohlgemuth, Manchester, Tenn., James (Julie) Wohlgemuth, Gretna, Neb., a daughter, Jane (Robert) Colburn, St. Charles, Mo., brother, Melvin Wohlgemuth, Atchison, sisters, Lavon Hollingsworth, Maryville, Mo., Thelma Gerardy, Atchison, 11 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
