Melvin Eugene Wohlgemuth, 80, of Atchison, passed away peacefully, Wednesday December 7, 2011 at his home.
Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Saturday December 10, 2011 at the Becker-Dyer-Stanton Funeral Home with Rev. Lee Hendon officiating. Burial will follow at the Sunset Memory Gardens, Atchison, KS. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 PM Friday, December 9, 2011 at the funeral home. Memorial contributions are suggested to the American Diabetes Association or Ronald McDonald House, Kansas City, and may be left in care of the funeral home. Melvin E. Wohlgemuth was born February 5, 1931 in Atchison, KS the son of the late Albert J. and Mari Willa (Mayfield) Wohlgemuth, Sr. He graduated from Atchison High School in 1949, before serving in the United States Marine Corps. Mel was a carpenter helping to build many buildings in Atchison, Leavenworth and St.Joe. He was a member of the American Legion Post #6. Melvin enjoyed building, farming, gardening and going to farm auctions. He also enjoyed helping family with their home projects. Melvin greatly enjoyed his four children and all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Melvin married Nora JeanWinzer September 18, 1955 at the First Christian Church. She survives of the home. Additional survivors include a son; Stan Wohlgemuth, Atchison, KS, three daughters; Jeanne (Larry) Pickman, Horton KS, Joanie (Rick) Abel, Nortonville KS, Beth (Donald) Hawk, Atchison KS, fifteen grandchildren and five great grandchildren, two sisters; Lavon Hollingsworth, Maryville MO, Thelma Gerardy, Atchison KS and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Albert Wohlgemuth, Jr. and a grandchild.
