Mrs. Evelyn Hudgins King, of Opelika, AL, formerly of Bremen was born on March 4, 1923 and was promoted to her eternal home with Jesus on September 19, 2010 with her family around her. She was preceded in death by her husband, Reverend Roy Edward King and parents, Edward Monroe and Naomi Pike Hudgins. She was a devoted wife and mother. She was also a beloved pastor's wife who served the Lord by supporting her husband as he pastored churches in Georgia, Alabama and Florida. She was a gifted Bible teacher, missions education leader and touched countless lives through her gracious and loving acts of kindness and gift of hospitality. Second only to her relationship with Jesus, her greatest joy was her family – especially her grandchildren.
She is survived by her only child, Dr. Michael E. & Kathy – whom she loved as a daughter, King of Opelika, AL; two grandchildren, Dr. Michelle & Jeffrey DeRamus of Tuscaloosa, AL and Kyle & Lee King of Opelika, AL; one great-grandson, Miles King of Opelika, AL.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, September 23, 2010 between the hours of 12 & 2 pm.
Funeral Services will be conducted September 23, 2010 at 2 pm from The Chapel of Hightower Funeral Home in Bremen with Dr. Michael King officiating. Music will be provided by Jane Bonner Trio and Regina Shultz. Kyle King, Jeffrey DeRamus, Phillip Rowell, Doyle King, Jr., Tricy Lybrand and Stephen King will serve as pallbearers.
Interment will follow in Bremen City Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made directly to First Baptist Church of Opelika, AL, Midway Baptist Church of Bremen, GA or the Bethany House Hospice Care, Auburn, AL.
