He was a native of George County and a resident of Leaf. He was a farmer and member of the Methodist faith. He died March 23, 1993, at Glen Oaks Nursing Home.
He is survived by 10 children, Charles Ray Fairley of San Diego, Calif.; Lavelle Fairley of Mobile; Etoile Buckhalter, Jackie Howell and Kathy Davis, all of Lucedale; Lavada Havard of Forest; J. W. Fairley, Faye Havard, Gene Fairley and Dean Fairley, all of Leaf. Also surviving are 43 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Others surviving are two brothers, Ellis Fairley and Shelton Fairley, both of Leaf; and five sisters, Nancy Goff and Hattie Edwaards, both of Leaf; Lena Fairley of Beaumont, Ethelene Havard of Rocky Creek and Thelma Byrd of Moss Point.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Fairley and a daughter, Lorene Cochran.
Conducting the services was Rev. Larry Havard. Interment was in the Joe P. Fairley Cemetery in Leaf with Fails Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
Pallbearers included Kevin Havard, Mike Cochran, Mark Fairley, Bobby Fairley, Mitchell Buckhalter and James Cochran. Honorary pallbearers were Fritz Fairley, Jason Fairley, Bennie Breland and Brian Havard.
