Samuel Hinks was active in polities , and was mayor of Baltimore from 1852 to 1854. He was also water registrar of the city, and was a director in the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad. In 1863, his health having become impaired. Mr. Hicks removed to his farm in Frederick County, where he regained his health and in which county he spent the rest of his days. Mr. Hinks was married to Susan Nixdorff. She survided her husband, and after his death removed to Baltimore, where she died May 5, 1909, in the 93 year of her age.
Samuel and Susan Hicks were the parents of the following children: (1.) William H. Hinks; (2.) George M. Hinks; (3.) Louis Edgar Hinks, who died in 1904; (4.) Josephine Jinks, who married George A. T. Snouffer; (5.) Marian Hinks, the widow of Charles C, Smith; and Caroline, who resides with her sister Josephine.
