Lemuel Cartwright, aged 101 years, died last week Remarkable man was thrice married & father of fourteen children. At his home, on Mouse Creek, a few miles northwest of Cleveland, on last Thursday night, Lemuel Cartwright, undoubtedtly the oldest man in Bradley County, went to his reward after a brief illness due probably to the infirmities of age. Mr.Cartwright's family were in possession of documentary proof that he was at least 101 of age & the probabilities seem that he was perhaps three years older than that. He was a native of Monroe County, but had been a resident of Bradley County for a great many years. He is survived by his widow, who is his third wife, & by four sons & four daughters living. Six children have pre-deceded him in death. The sons are W.C., Frank, Ben & Will Cartwright, all of whom reside in Bradley County. The daughters are Mrs. Curt Lee of James county, Mrs. Salina Ottinger of Texas, Mrs. Lurie Fain & Mrs. Emmy Davis, both of this County. The funeral occured at Hopewell, Saturday & was conducted by Prof. F. H. Carey of Etowah. Mr Cartwright was a life long member of the Methodist Church.
