Madeleine passed away Sunday, November 27, 2011 in Waco, Texas.

Madeleine accepted the Lord as her personal Savior at age 14. She graduated from Linden High School and earned degrees from College of Marshall (now East Texas Baptist University), Baylor University, and Texas Tech.
During WWII Madeleine served in the United States Marine Corps Women's Reserve. On November 25, 1945 she married her lifelong love George Lee Stanford, Sr. in Baltimore, Maryland. She started her teaching career at Grapeland High School, then College of Marshall, and Spur High School. She continued her career in education as a school counselor at Lorenzo Elementary, Ralls Elementary, and all levels at Crosbyton ISD. She retired in May 1977.
Madeleine and George moved to Crosbyton from Spur in 1961. They were active in both First Baptist Church and Calvario Community Church. They took advantage of their retirement years serving as missionaries both on the home and foreign mission fields. They worked in Arizona, New Mexico, Alaska, then in India and Bangladesh.
Madeleine was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter-in-law, Sylvia Dyer Stanford. She leaves behind a legacy of love in her son George Lee Stanford, Jr. and wife Cheryl of Huntsville AL, her daughter Sue Barber and husband Fred of Waco, granddaughter Myra Johnson and husband Brian of Amarillo, grandsons Derrick Barber of Waco, and Lute Barber and wife Caitlin of Houston, and great grandson Travis Johnson of Amarillo.
Madeleine was a devout follower of Jesus Christ. She demonstrated His love to everyone she met. Whether she and George were sharing with guests at Glorieta as they spent summers running Western Town, loving the Wayland Baptist University students as dorm houseparents, or inspiring the congregation of Calvario in the beginning days of their church- Madeleine shared God's love. And no matter what name you knew her by- Mrs. Stanford, Madeleine, Hermana or Emmy-you knew you were loved by an amazing woman when you were in her presence.
Emmy you will be missed by all the lives you have touched. We thank you for your service to our Heavenly Father and we know you have been welcomed home.
