Stephen died from exposure and disease in 1862 at Camp Kearny, LA, during the American Civil War. He was in Co. F, 8th NH Infantry. He had three sons who also served the cause in Co. I, 12 NH Infantry. Two of these sons, William H. and James died from wounds received in combat. William died in VA, and James at Gettysburg, PA. The third son, Lorenzo, survived the war and died in ME in 1916.
