He served in the United States Marine Corp. and was employed with the Quaker Maid Company.

In my possession I have an undated obituary clipping that may have appeared in the Terre Haute Indiana newspaper or a Trade Paper.

"International Representative DANIEL SMITH, 38, a member of the staff of Region 40 died on April 26 at St. Anthony Hospital here.
Mr. Smith, who joined the staff of District 50 in June, 1964, was formerly the president of Local Union 14985, composed of employes of the Ann Page Division, The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Company of Terre Haute, Ind. Although his tenure of employment with District 50 had been relatively short, he was well liked and well received by all of the officers and members of all the local unions in Region 40. He had recently attended the Second Constitutional Covention of District 50.
Mr Smith is survived by his widow, Nina, and four children; two sisters also survice.
Funeral services were held at the DeBaun Funeral Home on April 29, with the Reverend James Rowe officiating. Interment was in Roselawn Memorial Park at Terre Haute. The staff of Region 40, headed by Regional Director Joseph DiStefano, represented the National Organization of District 50.
