Albert A. Nickerson was born in 1838 in New York. He was married circa 1859/1860 to Mary Jane Adams. Mary was born circa 1841/1842 in New York, daughter of George Adams and Elizabeth (–?–).

On 26 June 1870, Albert and his wife Sarah lived next door to his parents in Mayfield township, Dekalb County, Illinois with their daughter Elizabeth. He worked as a farmer while Sarah was keeping house. The family owned $800 in real estate and $500 in personal property.

On 25 July 1870, the couple and five children- Elizabeth, Giles, Carry, James, and Eugene lived in Mayfield township. Albert was working as a farmer, Mary was keeping house, and the two oldest children were attending school. The family owned $1,500 in real estate and $500 in personal property.
Mary died on 3 February 1889 from inflammation of the stomach in Mayfield township.

Albert was married second on 21 March 1891 in Grand Traverse County to Rachel Terwilliger. Minister J. A. Allen conducted the ceremony, which was witnessed by Emma Slanton[?] and Rosetta M. Allen.
