For Elizabeth L. "Betty" Coglianese, her home was a window to her heart and soul; a place where she watched her family grow and cherished the memories and traditions that they all shared.

Betty loved her family more than anything. Her love for her husband, Dr. Emil J. Coglianese, knew no limit, and she treasured each moment that she and Mal shared together as husband and wife.

Lovingly devoted to her family, Betty adored her sons, Bud, Jim, and Bob, and she made sure that they always knew that they were the most important part of her life. Her grandchildren, Lisa, Cheryl, Christine, Debbie, and Mark filled her heart with pride and joy as she watched them succeed over the years. Her great-grandchildren, Timmy, Jessica, Shannon, and Amanda brought pure joy and light to her beautiful blue eyes.

Betty cherished the times when everyone would gather together, especially when it was around her table. She would fill her kitchen with the mouth-watering aroma of her famous potato sausage, lasagna, silta and her unbelievable lobster and lutefisk ? the best in the world! Her wonderful cooking gave her family a taste of the homeland she adored.

Born in Sweden on February 8, 1913, Betty immigrated to the United States when she was nine-years old. Proud of her Swedish heritage, she enjoyed the opportunity to share her traditions with her family.

It was Betty?s special touch that made her house a loving home. Her hands often found themselves tilling the earth as she tended to her garden and the beautiful life that seemed to bloom from the warmth of her touch.

While Betty loved to entertain, her interests also reached beyond the home. She belonged to St. Alexander Church in Palos Heights, Illinois, where she lived for 32 years. She was a member of the Palos Infant Welfare Society, the Palos Newcomers Club, and the Oak Hills Woman?s Club.

During the long days of summer at their lake home in Angola, Indiana, Betty enjoyed boat rides while the sun she loved warmed her soul. Betty also enjoyed traveling, and together with her husband, she traveled all over the world.

On Thursday, September 7, 2000, Elizabeth L. Coglianese, 87, was born to eternal life. God embraced her in His tender arms and surrounded her with the warmth and comfort of her favorite spot on the lake.

Betty is survived by her husband, Dr. Emil J. Coglianese; her two sons, Emil J. "Bud" (Judith A.) of Burr Ridge, Illinois, and James A. (Judith M.) of Palos Park, Illinois; her brother, Leonard Larson of Canada; five grandchildren, Lisa M. (Tim) Janeway, Cheryl A., Christine (Jason) Collins, Debra (Chris) Petrak, and Mark J.; and four great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her son Robert L.

As we tend to our own gardens and gather together as family and friends, may the earth between our fingers and the fresh aroma of homemade potato sausage always help us to know that Betty is near
