Major League Baseball Player. He played with the New York Yankees from 1943 to 1950. He also played for the St. Louis Browns and Cleveland Indians. He was the American League batting champion in 1945. Joe McCarthy, Hall Of fame Manager for the Yankees, called Stirnweiss one of the toughest competitors that he ever saw. Drowned when the Jersey Central Train bound for New York that he was riding on, ran through an open Draw Bridge and plunged into Newark Bay, New Jersey. When his body was found inside the train, he was clutching a Rosary in his hands.
