Amanda Cassady

Amanda Cassady, 36, left her wheelchair and walked away from this life November 16, 2011.
Born to Terry and Sharon Cassady in Salt Lake City, Utah, Amanda entered this world as the fourth of six alpha children. Possessing a razor wit and an unparalleled love of the human condition, Amanda set her own path.
After graduating from Westwood High School in 1993, she attended Ricks College in Idaho, eventually transferring to Austin Community College where she earned her associate's degree. She also attended the University of North Texas in Denton and the University of Texas at San Antonio. After school, she moved to Chula Vista, California, where she was married for a period to John Lopez.
At age 23, Amanda suffered a spinal cord injury in a car accident. Cheating death, she began a remarkable new life on wheels, creating a legacy over the following 15 years that would deeply impact a national audience of devoted family, friends and admirers. Most importantly, she shaped the impressionable spirits of her 12 nieces and nephews.
She served as the au pair for the first, Lukas Cassady, who was her constant companion in the last days of being able-bodied, and was her driving motivation in the painful road to recovery at St. David's in Austin. Lukas was followed by Remington, Chapman and Claire Hercules, Madeline Herr, and Lukas' little sisters Michael and Saylor. Her final five years, were spent caring for her kindred spirit, Barrett Herr, whom she saw born and most resembled. Then living in Richardson, Texas, she enjoyed a distinguished role as the favored companion of the youngest group of Cassady grandchildren in her final years, which at her death included Simon Hercules, Zoe Moore, and Charlotte and Cassady Herr.
Eagerly anticipating a joyful reunion in time, are her parents, as well as her siblings and in-laws Jackson and Kyle Cassady, Jason Cassady, Clarke and Elizabeth Hercules, Lincoln Cassady, Caron Moore, Bryan and Ariel Herr.
