His Engine Killed Him. Second Fatality of the Within Eleven Days. George C. Scott Was Caught Under Wheels. Instantly Killed. His Head Being Cut Off. He Was Reporting for Duty When He Was Run Down by His Own Locomotive, Which Was Being Brought From Roundhouse.

George C. Scott, a veteran locomotive engineer on the Southern Kansas division of the Santa Fe railroad, was ground to death beneath the wheels of his own engine this morning about 10:30 o'clock. He was about to go on duty to take freight train No. 273 to Emporia. The engine No. 758 was being taken from the roundhouse by a hostler. Mr. Scott, who had not yet taken charge, was seen to mount the step on the left side of the engine, which was backing up to reach the roundhouse. His Head Cut Off. A cry warned the hostler and the engine was stopped, but not until the drive wheels has passed over the engineer's body, severing his head and right arm. The body was taken from under the cylinder, the engine having been stopped before the front wheels trucks passed over the body. Mr. Scott was last seen at the left side of the engine cab. No one saw him die, but it is believed he lost his footing and was pulled under the wheels. Wife and Six Children. Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, one son and five daughters. The son, George A. Scott, lives in Sedalia, MO. The daughters, Mrs. J. E. Moore of 114 South Steuben Avenue, Mrs. A. N. Curtis, of 561 West Fifth Street, Mrs. A. B. Wiggans of 1023 South Highland Avenue and Misses Nell and Gladys Scott, live in Chanute. The two unmarried daughters live at the family home, 1022 South Central Avenue. Funeral Tomorrow. The funeral services will be held in the Methodist church tomorrow afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. They will be conducted by Dr. C.C. Cissell, the Methodist pastor, and the Rev. Charles A. Wilson, pastor of the Presbyterian Church. The son, George A. Scott, will be here from Sedalia, MO., to attend the funeral, as will also Traveling Engineer, James R. Scott of the St. Louis & San Francisco Railroad, a brother of the dead man. Other relatives live in Canada and will be unable to come. Mr. Scott was 63 years old May 25. last. He had lived in Chanute for twenty-eight years and was a locomotive engineer before coming here. Mr. Scott was a member of the Masonic Fraternity and the services at the grave will be in charge of the local Masonic Lodge. Second Fatality. Dr. R. A. Light, county coroner, was called to the scene of the accident, He investigated but held no inquest, considering official action unnecessary. The accident happened on the same track and within 100 feet of the spot where J. M. Jarrett was run down and killed by a locomotive a week ago last Saturday.
