Born in VT, came to Ohio as a surveyor with the CT Land Co. Kept a general store in Middlebury. Had a flouring mill on State Rd., in Northampton. Also had a distillery in Tallmadge. He was captain of an independent rifle company in the War of 1812 under General Wadsworth at Old Portage. He was promoted to major and then to colonel of the militia. He was elected County Auditor of Portage Co. Married to Almira Sprague.
