Leander McGinness of Company C, enrolled August 23, 1861 in Huntington by Wm. Riley as a Private; mustered in Sep. 25, 1861 in Ft. Wayne by Major Carpenter at age 19.
He was 5'6' tall, light complexion, black eyes, and black hair.
Born Dec. 19, 1842, in Union Co., Indiana, employed as a blacksmith, resident of Roanoke, in Huntington Co., Indiana.
Mustered out at the end of the war Sep. 14, 1865 in Nashville, Tennessee, with rank of Corporal.
Notes: Brother of Marion.
Honorably mentioned by Col. Reed at Shiloh.
Left sick near Corinth, Mississippi and sent upriver on Stephen Decatur to Evansville, Indiana, Jun. 4, 1862.
Was ambulance driver June-July 1863.
Reenlisted January 1, 1864.
Promoted Corporal November 5, 1864. Post teamster November-December 1864.
On duty at "suck" on Tennessee River July-August 1865.
