He was admitted as a Freeman April 18, 1690.

He served in the Militia as a Lieutenant during King Philip's War when about 10 percent of fighting age men were killed in this conflict.

King Philips War also known as the First Indian War or Metacom's War was fought between June 1675 and April 1638. More than half the towns in New England were attacked by Native Americans during the conflict with 12 towns being destroyed. Battles were fought in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Rhode Island and Maine.

Major Benjamin Church leading a group of militia rangers and Native American allies hunted down King Philip (Metacom) and killed him on August 12, 1676. The war would continue mostly in Maine until a treaty was signed at Casco Bay Maine in April 1678.
