Jorge E. Boyd Former Envoy To U.S. Dies
Jorge E. Boyd, 67, Panamanian Ambassador to the United States in 1940, died unexpectedly Thursday in Beverly Hills, Calif.
The brother of Augusto Boyd, former ambassador here and president of Panama, he was a candidate for the presidency of the Republic in 1928.
A graduate of Dwight College in New York, he received his Ph.D. degr ee in political science from the University of Pennsylvania. In 1911 he was Panamanian envoy to the coronation of George V of England, and from th at time until 1913 served as legal representative of the Panamanian Supre me Court during the boundary dispute between Costa Rica and his country.
Former associate Supreme Court Justice and Attorney General in Panam a, he was a member of the Claims Commission in 1915. Two years late r, he became Consul General of Panama and a member of the War and Trade Bo ard in New York. In addition he had served as counselor to the Netherlands, charge d'affairs to Great Britain and Belgium and Ambassador to Mexi co in 1945.
He was a member of the Geographical Societies of Paris and Washingto n, the American Institute of International Law, the Academy of Social a nd Political Science in Philadelphia, and Delta Chi Fraternity. He was also a representative of Panama on the Governing Board of the Pan American Union.
His wife, Mrs. Elizabeth Bolling Boyd, was a niece of the late Woodrow WIlson.
