CLOUDBURST
Sylvester operated a grist mill about a mile downstream from the Maple Post Office. When King Solomon Skaggs dam broke during a flash flood.The flood also washed out Sylvester's mill. Cloudburst: On Headwaters of Pitman Creek Six Year Old Son of Arthur Hash Drowned. Yesterday about 2 p.m. there was a cloud burst on the headwaters of Pitman Creek, near Maple in the West end of this county which caused the death of six year old Claudie Hash, son of Arthur Hash, and a great loss of property in the neighborhood. The child was at a mill belonging to Mr. Sylvester Price, and was drowned when the mill was washed away. Two horses were hitched near the mill, one belonging to Thomas Ratcliff and the other to Wilson Underwood, both drowned. The King Skaggs mill about one mile above the Price Mill was also washed away, as was the blacksmith shop of J.W. Gaddie futher down the creek. Sylvester Price also lost about 50 bushels of corn, a new wagon belonging to Esq. Will Bennett went down the stream. Much damage was done to crops, fencing, etc. Cause of Death : Drowning
