Thomas was the third child of six born to George Blenkarn and Caroline Smith. He was baptized at the Islington Church in the same year. The child of Godly parents, trained in a truly Christian home, and surrounded from his birth by all sweet and pure influences, was natural, though not inevitable, that he should early become a willing disciple, and decide to dedicate his life to the service of his Lord and Master.

Thomas found the lady, Emily (b. 1834-1917), who became his wife, in Middleton Rd. Congregational Church Sunday School, in Dalston, Middlesex and was married in Union Chapel, Islington, Middlesex in 1863. They had six children:

Edward Arthur
Caroline Mary Emily
Florence Emmeline
Ada Gertrude
Mabel Alice
Emma May
