In 1775 he was Sergeant in Major Timothy Bedel's Regiment of Rangers, and in 1776 he became a Lieutenant in Capt John House's company (in Col Cilley's Continental Regiment). He was at the battle of Stillwater and severely wounded on 19 Sep 1777 at Bemis Heights and was subsequently a State and a US Pensioner. He was the Grafton County coroner (1785-1790).
Another source says:
A Lieutenant in Col. Baldwin's regiment and in Col. Hobart's regiment.
Nehemiah Gould, father of James Gould, was a member of Capt Thomas Lawrence's company, attached to the forces operating around Lake George, near Fort William Henry, NY in 1758. Perhaps his company was in the fort at the massacre, 9 Jul 1758. On 20 July 1758, in the memorable skirmish at a place near the fort, Capt Lawrence was killed, together with four of his men, and among them was "Corporal Nehemiah Gould."
Esther Bowers, mother of James Gould, married Phineas Wait as her second husband in 1765.
