OSCAR D. SCHAEFFER, 51, of BOYERTOWN RD 2, husband of Edith (Meitzler) Schaeffer, died late yesterday afternoon at the American Oncologic hospital, Philadelphia.
Ill for the past year and a half, he had entered the hospital about a year ago.
Mr. Schaefer had been an iron worker all his life. He was last employed at Colebrookdale Iron works.
Born in Engelsville, he was a son of the late David Y. and the late Katie H. (Dotterer) Schaeffer.
He was a member of Boyertown Nest 22, Fraternal Order of Orioles, and the Baptist Missionary church, Macungie.
He was formerly married to the late Hannah M. (Dierolf) Schaeffer, who died in 1949. Their two children are amung the survivors.
Surviving are his present wife, his children, Margaret, 110 North Reading avenue, and William R., 541 South Reading avenue; four sisters, Mabel, wife of William Focht, Boyertown RD 1; Ella, wife of Harry Ackerman, 519 East Third street, Boyertown; Mrs. Minnie Angstadt, Stony Creek Mills; Mrs. Florence Kutz, 330 South Reading avenue, and one brother, William D., Boyertown RD 1.
Funeral services will be held from the late residence on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Further services will be held in Union Cemetery chapel, Boyertown. The Rev. V. N. Bixler, pastor of Baptist Missionary church, Macungie, will officiate.
Interment in charge of a funeral home at 124 West Philadelphia avenue, Boyertown, will be made in Union Cemetery.
