She was born on June 16, 1916, in Arena, the daughter of Andrew and Frieda (Zurbruegg) Abplanalp. She graduated from Arena High School. She was married to Harold Blumke on April 21, 1939, in Verona. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in 1989. Harold passed away on March 20, 1990.
She worked for 18 years at the Dane County Hospital and Home in food service, retiring in 1979. Prior to that she worked at Miller& Son's Supermarket for 10 years.
After her retirement she crocheted beautiful afghans for her family. She enjoyed day trips, playing bridge and euchre with her numerous card groups, dancing, bowling, her beautiful summer flowers and was an avid reader.
She was an excellent cook and a gracious hostess who truly enjoyed having guests to cook for.
She was always there to help wherever it was needed. She was very thoughtful, kind and generous. She loved family reunions.
She is survived by her son, Harland Blumke; daughter, Joanne Delvaux; grandson, Steven Delvaux; granddaughters, Debra (Steve) Sutter, Diane (Robert) Packard and Lisa (Jason Friedman) Delvaux; great-grandchildren, Megan, Adam and Connor Sutter, and Ben, Victoria and Samantha Packard; sisters-in-law, Helen and Rachel Abplanalp; goddaughter, Betty Goke; and several nieces, nephews and many good friends, especially Betty Burgenske.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son-in-law, Clarence "Red" Delvaux; and all of her siblings, Rose Anderegg, Ida (infant), Hulda Erb, and Adolph, Walter, Alex, Alfred and Harold Abplanalp; brothers-in-law, Arnold Anderegg and Jack Erb, sisters-in-law, Emma, Laura and Kate Abplanalp; and nephews, Roger and Robert Erb.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, Dec. 23, 2011, at ST. JAMES LUTHERAN CHURCH, 427 S. Main St., Verona, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Kurt Billings officiating. Burial will follow at Verona Cemetery. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
