Dorcas (Smith) Baker was born in Tisbury, MA in 1744 a daughter of Thomas and Elizabeth (Basset) Smith. She married Joseph Baker in Tisbury in 1769 and soon after they moved from Tisbury to Readfield (then Winthrop), Maine. They lived in Readfield, at the north end of Lake Maranacook, 1770-1783 at which time they moved on to Moscow, Maine where they were the first settlers. Dorcas brothers Mathias, Ransford and Thomas also moved to Readfield at the same time. Some of the Smith descendants still live in Kennebec County.
