An historical marker was placed at his grave by the Trans-Allegheny Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
It is believed that John had two wives. The second one was Margaret (née Neely), unrelated, buried in the same cemetery. Mrs. Neely obtained a Revolutionary War pension as his widow in 1845.
