Oleta Haddock was born in Vendor, on August 11, 1927, to Otis and Rachel (Smith) Holt. She died on Friday, July 8 (2011) at North Arkansas Regional Medical Center, at the age of 83.

Oleta began her teaching career after receiving her teaching certificate in the fall of 1945. She married Herman Haddock on April 21, 1946. Oleta dedicated herself to the field of education and placed every effort toward the completion of her college degree. While teaching, she continued her education, and received her BSE degree in elementary education and library science from the University of Central Arkansas in 1955. She retired after 37 years of teaching in the Arkansas Public School system.

She and Herman published the "Newton County Cemeteries" book after many hours of researching and compiling information on all Newton County burials. Oleta was a charter member of Newton County Baptist Church. She enjoyed farming, gardening, and growing many kinds of flowers. She also volunteered many years at the Newton County Fair, registering fair exhibits.

Oleta was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two brothers, Wayne Holt and Joe Holt; one sister, Evon Flud; two brothers-in-law, Virgil Flud and Wayne Haddock; and one sister-in-law, Edna Holt.

She is survived by one son, Donald Haddock and his wife Susan, of Vendor; two granddaughters, Jennifer Haddock and Jodi Moenning and husband, Jake; one great-grandson, Hayden Moenning, all of Vendor; three sisters-in-law, Linda Holt of Vendor, Iris Smith and her husband Edward of Vendor and Geraldine Vickers of Little Rock; and one brother-in-law, Glen Haddock and wife Bobbie of Rolla, Mo.
