Mary Stites "Nina" Anderson Pape was born on April 6, 1842 in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia, one of five children of Col. Edward Clifford Anderson, Sr. and Sarah McQueen Williamson. She married Edward George Pape from Germany, and they became the parents of famous educator Nina Anderson Pape before Edward's death.

Mary died at age 63 on September 20, 1905 in Savannah and is buried in Savannah's Laurel Grove Cemetery next to her daughter.
