Simeon was born in Horseneck (an area of Greenwich) CT in 1754. On March 14, 1774 he married Freelove Merritt of Dutchess County, NY. The couple had five children: Hiram, Stephen, Elizabeth, Sarah "Sally", and another daughter who apparently died young. In 1790 the family moved to eastern Greenville, NY, where Simeon bought 500 acres of land along the Potic Creek. There he founded and operated a saw mill.
