Lutelle Hodgson Phillips, 94, of Mooresville, passed away Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center, Mooresville. Born Aug. 18, 1917, in Davie County, she was a daughter of the late Humphrey Clay Hodgson and Nealie Peacock Hodgson.

Mrs. Phillips kept children in her home for many years. She was a long time member of Broad Street United Methodist Church, Mooresville, where she taught Sunday school for over 50 years in the nursery and children's departments.

Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Calloway Phillips, Sr.; daughter, Carolyn Phillips Murdock; brother, Arzie Hodgson; and sisters, Mona Kamps and Lena Harris. She is survived by her children, Fred C. Phillips, Jr. and his wife, Beverly, of Hampstead, Joan Newton, Patti Nantz and her husband, Doug, and Kathi Shuler and her husband, Glenn, all of Mooresville; brother, Carl Hodgson and his wife, Ruth, of Harmony; sisters, Pat Swisher, of Harmony, and Mary Snider, of Mt. Pleasant; 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, Dec. 20, at Broad Street United Methodist Church, Mooresville. The Rev. Amy Freeze officiated. Burial followed in Glenwood Memorial Park, Mooresville. The family received friends Monday, Dec. 19, at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville. Memorials may be made to Broad Street United Methodist Church, 355 S. Broad St., Mooresville, NC 28115 or Hospice at Charlotte-Lake Norman, 705 Griffith St., Suite 203, Davidson, NC 28036. Cavin-Cook Funeral Home, Mooresville, is serving the family of Mrs. Phillips.
