In 1907~, Nelle moved with her family to Saint Michael, Barbados. She lived there until she emigrated to the United States aboard the S.S. Saga on August 27, 1917 through Ellis Island, New York.
On June 21, 1924, Nelle married John Padley. Nelle and John had two children: John Thomas Padley (1925- ) and Edith Ann Padley (1933- ).
During the early 1930s, Nelle and her family lived in Brooklyn, New York. Later, Nelle and her family moved to Garden City, New York. Nelle and John remained in Garden City until his retirement when they moved to Ormond Beach, Florida.
In the late 1990s, Nelle moved with her daughter Edith to Columbia, Missouri to be near family. On March 23, 1999, Nelle died.
