FORMER TEACHER HERE DEAD
Death last evening claimed Mrs. C. Porter Huntington, wife of the music department supervisor of Joseph Johns Junior High School. She was a former local teacher and was active in social and civil [sic] work.

Ferndale Woman Active in Social, Civic Work: Rites on Monday
Mrs. C. Porter Huntington of 727 Glenwood Avenue, Ferndale, a former local school teacher and actively interested in Johnstown social and civic work, died at 6:20 o'clock last evening in Memorial Hospital. She was 39. In ill health for the last six months, Mrs. Huntington was admitted to the hospital for treatment on Wednesday of last week.
Friends are being received at the H. M. Pickering & Sons Funeral Home, Somerset Street, where funeral services will be held at 2:30 o'clock on Monday afternoon. The rites will be conducted by Rev. F. D. Esenwein, pastor of the Franklin Street Methodist Church, of which the deceased was a member. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery.
The Ferndale woman was the former Sara Haynes and was born on June 16, 1902, in Johnstown, a daughter of Milton J. Haynes, whose death occurred in 1917, and Mrs. Mary (Tremellen) Haynes, who resides at the Huntington home. Her grandfather was Napoleon B. Haynes, one of the earliest settlers of this city. Both Napoleon and Haynes Streets in Kernville were named in his honor.
Mrs. Huntington was graduated from Johnstown High School in 1920 and attended Virginia College in Roanoke, Va. She taught French and Spanish in the Southern college for two years after her graduation and then took a special course at Columbia University. Returning to Johnstown, Mrs. Huntington was named to the Garfield Junior High School faculty and was the first teacher of dramatics in the city schools.
The former Sara Haynes and C. Porter Huntington were united in marriage on June 3, 1929. Mr. Huntington is head of the music department of Joseph Johns Junior High School and is prominent in Johnstown musical circles. One child, Linda Lee, was born to the couple.
Mrs. Huntington was an active worker in parent-teacher associations, being president of the Ferndale P.T.A. for 1941-42 and a pst officer of the Cambria County organization. She was a member of the Johnstown Little Theater, a former secretary of the local Daughters of the American Revolution and also held office for a time in the Y.W.C.A.
In addition to her mother, husband and daughter, the deceased leaves two sisters: Merry, wife of Monnie Young, 340 Tioga Street, and nan, wife of Robert P. Reed, 600 Diamond Boulevard.
