Elisa Sophia "Alice" arrived in New York in 1871, age 7. In the 1880 Federal Census, Alice shows up as a servant in the Jonathan and Eliza Scofield Wood family in Easton, NY. Included photo shows that the Woods announced the marriage of "Alice L. Wood" to Truman Hoag in 1883. So she had apparently become part of their family.
However the marriage may not have been an ideal one, as Jane Welling's book, "They Were Here Too", mentions Alice as "a chronic invalid at odds with the world though she outlived her husband and everyone else of her generation".
