John Cornett was the son of Robert Bustard Cornett and Louisa Combs of Perry Co. He was the grandson of Revolutionary War veteran, William Cornett. John was married to Catherine Combs, daughter of Tarleton and Betty Combs. They lived at Christopher. These are the children of John and Catherine:

Louisa Cornett 1859-1931
Elizabeth Cornett 1861-1941
Ira Cornett 1864-1897
Artamease Cornett 1866-1891
Carlow 'Bud' Cornett 1869
Nancy Ann Cornett 1874
Zachariah Morgan Cornett 1875-1943
Arch Cornett 1879-1967

When I asked why wasn't JOHN buried in the Cornett Family Cemetery at Christopher, my mother said she was told this story; "John was supposed to have gotten a severe case of poison ivy and the intense itching of it drove him crazy". Whatever happened to John, he was taken to Lexington to the Eastern State Mental Hospital and he died there. The family had no money to bring him back and he was buried in the cemetery on the hospital grounds. No record of when he died has been found. He died between the 1880 and 1900 census. He has no marked grave in Lexington.
