Magdalena "Maggie" De Groot Stam

On Sept. 19, 2004 our beloved Mamma, Oma and great-grandma passed away peacefully. She has seen much and lived a valiant and true life and has at last decided to return to her handsome Symen; her mother, father, brother and her gracious sister Jo, whom she loved dearly and called-out to so often.
Born Dec. 21, 1919 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands to Servaas de Groot and Dirkje Maria Looman.
Married Oct. 7 1942 to Gerardus Doornbos and had four children: Ria van Lent (John), Jan Doornbos (Nellie), Anneke Donnelly (Steve), Gerard Doornbos (Karen). Grandmother to 12 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.
In 1953 she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to which she held steadfast and served with diligence her life long.
In 1973, leaving behind family and friends, she immigrated to Canada. She married Symen Stam on June 17, 1976 for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in the Avenues until Symens' death in 1993. For 18 years Maggie was employed in the temple and made many friends.
In 1994 she moved to South Jordan for her remaining years where many ward members and neighbors will miss her. Maggie found good in all people. She was hardworking, generous and forgiving. She loved children, animals and SHOES. She could shop 'till we all dropped, was always on the go and could eat an ice cream cone faster than anyone on earth. Mamma was a latter-day pioneer. No matter the pitfalls, she always managed to climb out on top. Even in the end when she had no strength left to climb, she flew!
Funeral services will be held Friday, Sept. 24, 2004 11:00 a.m. at the So. Jordan Highland Stake Center 4000 West 10200 South. A viewing for family and friends will be held Thurs from 6-8 p.m. at Jenkins-Soffe South Valley 1007 W. So. Jordan Parkway (10550 So.)and one hour prior to services. Interment Salt Lake City Cemetery.
