August 10, 1919 - June 19, 2015 Louise Roberts Bittle – Age 95, a native of Vancleave. MS passed on June 19, 2015. She was born August 10, 1919.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E. Clarke Bittle, of Mobile and her son, Robert Joseph Bittle of Carrollton, TX.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Holwadel of Mobile, daughter-in-law Mary Posey Bittle of Carrollton, TX, grandson Robert Joseph Bittle (Angela Angel) of Dallas TX, grandson Anthony Clarke Barnes (Jennifer Stewart) of Mobile, granddaughter Melanie Darlene Bittle of Carrollton, TX and Rwanda, East Africa, great grandson Zachary Stewart Barnes and great granddaughter Mallory Elizabeth Barnes, both of Mobile, AL
Louise started teaching at Peter Joe Hamilton School, Chickasaw, AL, in September of 1957 after two years of college work (she attended college on a basketball scholarship). After many night courses, correspondence courses and summer school, she earned a BS degree from the University of Southern Mississippi. Louise went on to earn her Master's Degree from the University of South Alabama. She retired in 1978 after teaching 26 years as a 3rd grade teacher and often acted as assistant principal. She has been a member of the American Association of University Women since 1962 and the Alpha Delta Kappa Honorary Sorority since 1966. She is also a Member of the John B. Shearer /Satsuma Chapter, Order of Eastern Star and the Mauvilla Garden Club, where she served as Historian. Louise has been an active member of the Chickasaw United Methodist Church since 1950, serving in various areas of the church, such as Sunday School Superintendent, UMW, and was a member of the Beckham Sunday School Class. She enjoyed a variety of hobbies, such as: Decoupage, Chickasaw United Church Quilting Group, Growing African Violets, Learning to play the piano in 1970's, Fishing for Flounders at Gulf Shores, Reading, Word Puzzles, Jigsaw Puzzles, Board and Card Games. Louise was a sports enthusiast – often watching and listening to multiple TVs and radios at the same time, so as not to miss her favorite football, baseball, tennis, and basketball teams. She was an avid tennis player until age 84. Visitation will be held at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street Extension, Mobile, AL on Wednesday, June 24 from 5:30 pm to 8 pm. Services will be held at the Chickasaw United Methodist Church, 108 Lee Street, Chickasaw, AL on Thursday, June 25, 2015 at 2 pm, with the Rev. Dave Rhodes officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow at the Mount Pleasant United Methodist Church in Vancleave, MS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Chickasaw United Methodist Church, 108 Lee Street, Chickasaw, AL 36611. Funeral arrangements by Radney Funeral Homes.
