Benjamin "Pump" Saunders came to America around 1885 from the Bahamas, as many other Conchs did around this time. He was born in Green Turtle Cay, and at this time we don't know who his parents were (pretty sure Joseph Saunders and Charlotte Curry), though there are some hints in family records. In the late 1840s in the Bahamas, he married Amanda Lowe -- daughter of John Lowe and Mary Sawyer. Amanda is also buried here, and she can be found as a widow in the 1900 Key West census. We also have Amanda's probate records from 1901, found in the Monroe County courthouse in 2012.
