"Died.
Miss Bird Barrett died yesterday morning at the home of her father, Henry Barrett, west of town. Young, talented and educated, she was especially qualified to enjoy life, and was taken away at that period when it seems most worth the living. Her death brings sadness to many."
From page 1 of the September 1, 1899 Skidmore Standard:
"Obituary
Marian, second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Barrett was born July 16, 1876 and died at their home, August 17, 1899.
She was converted about ten years ago and joined the M. E. church in 1890 under the pastorate of Rev. C. O. Mills. From that time till her death she lived a faithful, consistent Christian life. She was an active worker in the Epworth League and Sunday School and will be greatly missed in the community.
After eight weeks of patient suffering she went home to rest, leaving her parents, one sister and four brothers to mourn her loss. The funeral was preached at the Burr Oak church by her pastor, Friday, August 18."
