Young Georgia experienced a great loss at the age of three when her mother died suddenly; she would go on to experience great joyfulness in her life when her father wed Flora F. Watkins, Mama Flora as she would come to be known.
Growing up the family attended Holt Street Baptist Church. Georgia often spoke of her experiences living in Montgomery. The family participated in several activities of the Montgomery Improvement Association, including the National Walk Day Bus Boycott.
In her youth, Georgia enjoyed cooking, dancing, going to the movies, playing the piano, basket-ball.
Georgia was briefly married to Freddie Lee Grant in 1946, they had one daughter, Clararethia Grant.
In 1948 her sister Mary E. "Ann" Grant introduced her to her future husband Senior Airmen Walter Adams. They fell in love and were married on June 7, 1949. As a military wife Georgia learned to quickly adapt to what-ever presented itself, including moving on a sixty day notice. While in the Air Force the couple was relocated several times, creating a family of five (Kenneth, Walter, Scherrie, Sharon, and Vincent) and making life long friends along the way.
One of Georgia's favorite past times was bowling which her eldest son Kenneth introduced her to while they were stationed at Barksdale A.F.B., in Shreveport, Louisiana She bowled in various tournaments through out Europe and the United States.
In addition to bowling, she loved making Ceramics. She made the Nativity Scene that was put out every Christmas!
Georgia was a talented seamstress, she made everything from clothes for her daughter's and their dolls, to the curtains in her home as well as those that adorn the pulpit at the Unity Baptist Church.
Georgia was known for her Fruit Cake! During the holidays, she would bake cakes for family and friends. Her recipe made many who did not care for fruit cake change their minds... just ask anyone that was fortunate to enjoy a slice! If you got a whole cake, you were considered family!
