Sarah's parents were married in Edgemont Twp, Chester, Delaware Co PA. Her father Thomas Bowater, had become friends and business associates with her future father-in-law, John Beals Sr. As early as 1685, three years before Sarah's birth, the two were involved in mutual land purchases in Chester Co PA. Sarah's marriage to the junior John Beals was most likely a collaboration between the longtime friends.
Sarah married:
1) John Beals Jr on 14 Aug 1711 at Nottingham Friends Meeting House in Nottingham, Chester Co PA; he died 12 Dec 1745, aged 60y 10m 22d . They had eight children, three sons and five daughters.
2) Reverend Alexander Underwood in Feb 1748 at Fairfax Friends Meeting House in Waterford, Loudoun Co VA; a late-in-life marriage, they had no children.
After the death of her first husband, Sarah transferred to Warrington Friends Meeting House. She was accompanied by her son Bowater Beals, who had married Sarah Cook, a daughter of Thomas & Mary (Underwood) Cook. Sarah Beals met her future husband through her daughter-in-law Sarah (Cook) Beals, to whom he was maternal grandfather.
Encyclopedia of American Quaker Genealogy, by William Wade Hinshaw; Vol VI, Pgs 469 & 575:

Sarah is again recorded on 12 Sep 1761, when she was succeeded as "overseer", most likely due to illness. She died a few years later, aged 77y 4m 10d. Alexander died two years later in 1767, aged 79.
