Civil War Medal of Honor Recipient. He was mustered in as a Private in Company H, 28th Connecticut Volunteer Infantry on November 15, 1862. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery in action on June 14, 1863 at the Battle of Port Hudson, Louisiana, with his citation reading "Made two trips across an open space, in the face of the enemy's concentrated fire, and secured water for the sick and wounded." The 28th Connecticut was part of an assault on Confederate trenches, which were besieged by Union forces, and the attack produced large numbers of casualties killed and wounded in the regiment. Private Fox twice dashed into the open field where many men lay wounded, and went about giving them water, all under severe Confederate fire. He was awarded his Medal on April 1, 1898, thirty-five years after his brave act. He was honorably discharged on August 28, 1863 at New Haven, Connecticut.
