Eleanor suffered a head injury when she was a infant and needed lifelong care. After the death of her father at the young age of 40, her grandparents (Pleasant D. and Dora Louise Reed) who lived next door, helped raised the five girls. In later years she lived in a care facility in Spring Hill, Johnson County, Kansas.
Eleanor passed away 13 Sep 1993 in Spring Hill, Kansas at the age of 69 years. She is laid to rest with her parents and grandparents in Highland Park Cemetery, Kansas City, Wyandotte, Kansas.
